What is Morgellons Disease?

According to Wiki answers: it is “a proposed condition characterized by a range of cutaneous (skin) symptoms including crawling, biting, and stinging sensations; finding fibers on or under the skin; and persistent skin lesions (e.g., rashes or sores).”

According to the CDC: it is “an unexplained skin condition or unexplained dermopathy which some refer to as “Morgellons.” Persons who suffer from this unexplained skin condition report a range of cutaneous (skin) symptoms including crawling, biting and stinging sensations; granules, threads, fibers, or black speck-like materials on or beneath the skin; and/or skin lesions (e.g., rashes or sores). In addition to skin manifestations, some sufferers also report fatigue, mental confusion, short term memory loss, joint pain, and changes in vision.”

A letter was apparently sent out by the CDC to all state medical associations and is posted on their website. The letter has no date in the heading so a time stamp cannot be determined as to when it was released.

The main intent of this communication was to let these medical associations know that they were conducting a study on this unknown affliction to determine “whether persons who identify themselves as having this condition have a common cause for their symptoms or share common risk factors.”

The letter further states:

“In January 2008, CDC announced the launch of an investigation of this condition in collaboration with Kaiser Permanente’s Northern California Division of Research and the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology.

The research is occurring in phases, with an estimated timeframe for completion of 12 months or more.

Results of this investigation will most likely be published in CDC’s weekly bulletin, called the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, or a peer-reviewed scientific journal.

CDC has established a website (www.cdc.gov/unexplaineddermopathy) that provides timely updates on CDC’s activities and answers to the frequently asked questions that we receive about this condition.”

Here are a few examples of the answers they have posted in the FAQ area:

Does CDC have any evidence that this is a new condition? We do not know the cause of this condition or whether this condition is new. CDC has received an increased number of inquiries from persons who report similar symptoms; therefore, we are conducting an investigation to learn more about this unexplained dermopathy.

Is this condition contagious?
The factors associated with condition are unknown. At this time there is insufficient information to determine whether or not this condition is contagious.

Furthermore, the CDC recommends that you contact the American Academy of Dermatology or the American Medical Association to find a physician and identify the Morgellons symptoms. After searching on both websites for information on Morgellons, only the AMA had one reference stating that it was an unknown condition and that Kaiser Permanente was conducting further research.

On to the Kaiser Permanente website in the current research projects this is listed for Morgellons disease:

Investigation of an Unexplained Dermopathy, California
This study of an unexplained dermopathy, sometimes known as Morgellon’s syndrome, involves a Web-based questionnaire and a follow-up clinical examination of eligible Kaiser Permanente members that includes dermatologic, neuropsychiatric and general medical examinations, laboratory work and a skin biopsy.

The investigator is a Joe V. Selby, MD, MPH and is being funded by the CDC.

After returning to the CDCs website at the time that this article was written, June 2009, the CDC had nothing posted on their website that had any updated reports or findings. The newsletter where they stated they would most likely published the results returned the search query for Morgellons with no matches.

According to Dr. Staninger one of the leading environmental toxicologists in the country, she presented these findings in Oct 2006 at the NREP (National Registry of Environmental Professionals) annual conference is Nashville TN. The following is an exerpt of this report: Morgellons is “a disease in which individuals have the growth of fibers from their skin that burn at 1,700 degrees F and do not melt. (20) A private study to determine the chemical and biological composition of these fibers has shown that the fibers’ outer casing is made up of high density polyethylene fiber (HDPE). The fiber material is used commonly in the manufacture of fiber optics.”

... It was further determined that this material is used throughout the bio nanotechnology world as a compound to encapsulate a viral protein envelope, which is composed of a viron (1/150th times smaller than a virus) with DNA, RNA, RNAi (mutated RNA) or RNAsi linear or ring plasmids for specific functions. (21, 22) Toxicological pathology identification of tissue biopsies from an individual diagnosed with Morgellons revealed the presence of continual silica or glass tubules with the presence of silicone. (23) It must be noted that the core toxicological effects of silicone alone have been demonstrated throughout the breast implant industry and litigation cases. (24, 25) Furthermore, silicone cannot make silica, but silica or silica bicarbonate can make silicone through natural cellular interaction in a biological system. The subject did not have breast implants or any other implant or silicon glue injections.”

Luckily Dr. Staninger has continued extensive research and is publishing a series of books coming in early 2010. What is very interesting and maybe a little too sci fi-ish is there appear to be multiple vector points for contact with the contaminants or pathogens that are associated with Morgellons. Numerous individual reports of skin parasites and Dr. Staninger's own research into chem trails are also connected to the array of Morgellons symptoms.

One can not help but think there is something really wrong with our medical system today after doing this research. It makes sense to ask, why would a foundation that is funded by the existence of a disease rather than the solution, ever want to get the solution? There is a gross conflict of interest within our system- you can not give profit for the ‘treatment’ of health issues to an industry that is supposed to provide a cure.

Not only has Dr. Staninger been able to identify, document, and study this condition with science and laboratory research ever since its early emergence; she has created a treatment protocol for this devastating condition for those suffering from the disease called Morgellons.
